It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Gran, Great Gran and friend, Betty Lind, she was 84 years young and loved by all.
Born in Winchester, Ontario, Betty was the daughter of Merite and Pearl Summers. She grew up a few miles away, in the small town of Williamsburg, with her little sister Sandra and younger brother, Raymond. At a young age, Betty married Merle Casselman and moved to a close by town, Morrisburg. There she had 5 children: Elaine, Janet, Little Merle, Steven, and Nancy.
In Ontario, Betty lived a hardworking life, raising a family, her colt, Nugget, working in care homes, and restaurants. She even ran a small business on the outskirts of town. She bought a little food truck and fixed it up. Elaine and she painted it and operated it successfully together, while the other children peeled potatoes and eagerly ate the goods.
In the early 70s, Betty & Merle divorced, resulting in them dividing the children. Betty went on to manage a restaurant in Iroquois, a neighboring town. There, she met and fell in love with Douglas Murphy. They soon moved “out west”, to B.C., and shortly thereafter got married. They moved around often but always remained in the Okanagan. She went back to various adventures with her jobs & one was working in care homes again. A choice she made that led her to meeting her long time friend, Vi. Their friendship held steady while they shared love, laughter, family and beyond. In the fall of 1980, Betty and Doug proudly announced the birth of their daughter and welcomed their baby girl, Michelle into the family. Sadly, Betty was widowed the following year and left to raise their daughter on her own. She eventually settled into Westbank, where she found new friends and chosen family in her neighbors.
Betty has always been most proud of the big family she created and loved us all very much. She was a generous woman, who loved Elvis, children, animals, dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, horses and especially wolves, which she held close to her heart. Known for her strong personality and witty remarks, Betty was a competitive, feisty game player, much to the entertainment of whoever was playing with her at the time. She still played Rummikub with family and friends to near end.
Betty had a stroke in April 2022 that ultimately ended her independence. She was moved into several places along the journey thereafter, before finding her sweet spot at the Lakeview Lodge in West Kelowna. She got settled in, was close to family, & finally content. She loved the staff and people there, it was more chosen family for her to enjoy.
Betty had a one of a kind personality with unique sayings and comments that will be missed and remembered by all that knew and loved her. She had managed to live the second longest out of anyone in her family history.
Survived by her siblings: Sandra (Serge), and Raymond, her children: Steven (Cora), Nancy and Michelle, her sons in law: Jim Fry (Laura) and Georges Desjardins, her grandchildren: Lisa (Jason), Candace (Abe,Gracie), Kevin (Lena), Miranda (Josh), Daemon (Megan), and Carter, her great grandchildren: Dakota, Dominick, Bailey (Griffin), Landon, Lincoln, Tyson, Alina, and her nieces and nephews: Iris, Stephanie, Steve, Micheal, & Melody, Marley, extended families, and many friends.
