Cecil Cyril Schmidt

He has lived in various cities across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec before settling in Vernon. Cecil had a diverse career as both a social worker and a chartered accountant, taking great pride in his ability to help others throughout his life.

Cecil was a long-time volunteer with multiple organizations that included the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre (as a founding member), Vernon & District Association for Community Living, Vernon Curling Club (as a life member), The Boys and Girls Club, the Okanagan Historical Society, and the North Okanagan C.A. Association. He also assisted many families new to Canada in making Vernon their home. In 2004, he was honoured as Vernon’s Good Citizen of the year.

A devoted member of St. James Catholic Church, Cecil served his church and community faithfully for many years. His lifelong commitment to giving back was evident in all he did. Cecil and his wife, Muriel, enjoyed travelling together across Canada, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Australia. An avid curler for many years, Cecil later enjoyed watching curling and other sports on television. He also took pleasure in game shows, board games, card games and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Cecil was predeceased by his father, Frank; his mother, Rose; his sister and brother-in-law, Marlene & Jack; his stepson, Glenn; his son-in-law, Randy; his nephews, Tom and Bob; a niece Cheryl.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Muriel; his brother, Ron (Loretta); his stepchildren, Arlene and Dave (Sherry); his grandsons, Brad, Gord and Chris; many nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

A private family celebration of life will take place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Father Peter Nguyen officiating.
