Graduating Kelowna Secondary School in 1972, David pursued post-secondary studies at UBC Vancouver in Science and Music and later attended BCIT, where he specialized in Food Production. His professional career included working in field service and marketing for Okanagan North packing house, and later at RBC Dominion Securities as an associate investment advisor.
Kathy and David moved to 4th Ave in Vancouver, November 1974, and were married on August 11, 1977, in Victoria, BC. They shared many fond memories, including their time in Vancouver in the mid-1970s, where David immersed himself in the vibrant jazz scene. A talented artist and musician, David had a deep love for music and the arts. He was profoundly inspired by the jazz greats of the era, attending performances by legends such as Charles Mingus, Ella Fitzgerald, and Oscar Peterson. He also shared his passion for music through his own performances, lectured at Victoria Conservatory of Music, and produced a series of self-published books and online resources on music theory.
David and Kathy returned to Kelowna in 1984 and their son, Paul, was born August 1989. Over the years, the family enjoyed gardening, skiing at Big White, and travelling for Paul’s soccer tournaments. David was introspective and dedicated his days to creative and intellectual pursuits. His art, music and study of history were a testament to his remarkable talent. David’s legacy of creativity and love for the arts will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A private celebration of life will be held to honour his memory. Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared on this webpage for the Sharp family.
