Delma Eva Whitney

September 14, 1936 – July 22, 2026

It’s with great sadness we announce the death of Delma Brown/Whitney.

Delma passed away peacefully in her care home July 22nd, 2026 at the age of 89 years old. Delma is survived by her four children, Doug, Larry, Tim and Alana Whitney, also Ray Beaudry (son-in-law) others she leaves behind is her boyfriend, John Cross, and ex-husband, Allen Whitney.

Delma will also be missed by her grandchildren Amy Whitney, Amanda Whitney, Stan Whitney, Colin Whitney, Danja Whitney, Jayson Scheerschmidt, Eric Beaudry, Kayne Beaudry, Kiara Beaudry, Tyler Pinda/Whitney, and Douglas Whitney.

She will be missed by all who called her Mom even though she wasn’t related by blood to many. They still called her Mom for over 40 years, including Tammy Gibson, Charlene Breault, and Shelley Klein, to name just a few. Not only did they call her Mom, but their kids affectionately called her Grandma.

Delma did many things in her day, including being the first woman in Canada to race men on a dirt oval track and win. She loved working with the old CB Club doing Halloween patrols and working closely with the RCMP. She held all sorts of dances and get-togethers as I was growing up.

Delma and Allen moved to Kelowna from Fredericton, N.B., around 1971 and lived in Winfield, B.C. for many of those years. She rode horses, was a secretary for many years, and worked in a brass shop for a few years. She loved her children and grandchildren more than life. She was so happy when they came around.

I have fond memories of camping with her and my Dad when we were younger. She particularly loved karaoke with her boyfriend, John Cross. She loved singing despite being tone deaf.

But that was my Mom—rarely embarrassed, always outgoing. Her and John had some beautiful memories together.

Delma always loved the fall leaves here as they reminded her of her hometown in New Brunswick where she grew up. She will be missed by her remaining brothers and sisters, as well as her great-grandchildren Trey, Leo, and Kali, who visited her as often as they could, as well as nine other great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Delma requested there not be a funeral and requested that her ashes be spread in a place of Danja’s choice, most likely when the fall colours are out—her favourite time of year.

We may have a small get-together in a few months. We take comfort in knowing she has all her memories back and is with family and friends now.
