It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Misutka in his 65th year on February 17, 2026. He passed away at KGH after suffering complex health issues and is now free from pain and suffering.
Doug was a devoted and caring husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Doug leaves his loving family- wife Danuta; his daughter Julia, son Mark (Robin), grandsons Steffan, Jacob, as well as his sisters Karen (Micheal), and Janice (Colin) and Mother Marilyn. His nieces Brittney (Alden), Sasha (Dan) and Emily (Rhianna).
Doug was born in Nakusp. He went to the University of Alberta where he earned degrees in Forestry and Commerce and met and married his wife, Danuta. Doug worked with Crown Forest and with his combination of forestry and accounting credentials was highly respected both within the company and by his industry peers. His path was cut short by two tragic accidents, a hockey accident in 1998 causing severe damage to his heart. In spite of this setback Doug learned to play guitar, compiled a thorough family genealogy, wrote and published a book and looked after everyone. He suffered a catastrophic brain injury in 2012. Doug spent the last 14 years of his life in residential care. We were very blessed to have Doug in our lives.
