Frances was born in Kelowna, British Columbia on September 26, 1947 and lived in Kelowna her entire life. She and her husband, Heinz, lived on Girard Road for 49 years. Heinz and Frances moved to the Okanagan Chateau two years ago, when Frances required more help due to her dementia. Her family would like to thank the staff at the Okanagan Chateau for being so helpful, kind and attentive.
Frances worked for Kent Macpherson real estate appraisals for over 20 years before retiring. In her spare time, she loved doing crosswords and word searches, playing solitaire, and reading (she had a large collection of Stephen King novels). She carried on many of her mom’s traditions including maintaining an immaculate garden, canning many fruits and vegetables, and making delicious beef tongue, stewed rabbit and pumpkin cream cheese loaf, just to name a few of her family’s favourite dishes.
Frances and Heinz loved fishing and camping (first in their tent trailer and then with their 5th-wheel). They travelled extensively, going to Europe (especially Switzerland) multiple times, Mexico, the US and Canada, including driving coast to coast with their 5th-wheel. They also loved going for walks. Good luck getting past her if you had a dog - that would require at least a 2-minute pet!
Frances was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Gordon, in 1970; her father Michael in 1985, and her mother Margaret in 2024.
She is survived by her husband, Heinz Ott; son, Rick (Melinda) Ott; sister, Ann Morphy; brother-in-law, Douglas (Gail) Gordon; and several niece and nephews.
A celebration of life is being planned; if you are interested in attending, kindly email Rick Ott at [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Frances’ memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada at www.alzheimer.ca.
