It’s one year ago, July 18, 2020 since Gert (Gerhard) Glata passed away after suffering from declining health.
I feel his presence everyday!
I am thankful that he is no longer suffering and is re-united with those who have gone before him.
Gert influenced so many people in his life, both in Germany and Canada. He was so proud to be a Canadian.
He was always active, hard-working, creative, a perfectionist and ready to help anyone who needed it.
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us everyday
Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed!
Love, Lynne
GLATA, Gert (Gerhard)
Gert (Gerhard) was born in the Black Forest region of Germany in 1931.
He loved downhill skiing and soccer. In having to make a choice, soccer won out, as he launched into playing Professional Soccer in Germany.
Upon immigrating to Canada, he worked at a few locations across the country before settling in Edmonton, AB and later in Calgary. The big draw was proximity to the Rockies and downhill skiing.
Calgary is where he met Lynne and they married in 1973.
He ran a successful autobody repair business in 3 consecutive locations. He was a multi-talented man who seemed to be able to do anything, including house building.
Gert and Lynne moved to the Okanagan in 2000, first to the Penticton area and to Kelowna in 2005.
Declining health in recent years has been a great frustration for Gert as it robbed him of his mobility and independence. He passed away July 18, 2020 one month shy of turning 89. He is now at peace and out of pain.
He is survived by spouse, Lynne, sister Rita (Germany) and her children Sissi (Germany), Johannes (New York), and cousins Hedwig and Roland (Germany) as well as countless friends in both Canada and Germany.

Gert will be cremated but there will be no formal service due to COVID restrictions.
