Grace “Sweets” Irene Hogarth, 66, of Beaverdell, BC passed away in the arms of her loving husband, James, at home with daughter Mandy by her side on Monday, February 17, 2020 after a long battle with multiple health issues.
Grace was born on July 10th, 1953 in Toronto, Ontario. Grace was predeceased by her mother Florence Eyles and her step father John Eyles. She is survived by her loving husband James, daughters Amanda, Cecelia (Dave) and Melanie (Darren) and her son JR (Megan). Her eleven grandchildren, Andrea, Bryden (Morgan), Joel, Meghan, Ethan, Laura, Catherine, Sadie, Sophie, Alex, Kayl and her great granddaughter Taylor. Grace is also survived by her sisters Florence and Frances and her brothers Bill and Ron. Many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, both in British Columbia and Ontario. She had many, many close friends that meant the world to her but especially Linda, Phyllis, Faye, Tim, Brent and Tex.
In 1968, James had noticed Grace walking down the street wearing a navy pea jacket but later Grace met James or “Hogey” as she affectionately called him, after leaving a get together upset. James ran after Grace and yelled, “Hey, woman! Slow down!” Grace knew then and there that James was the one for her and told her mother that “she had met the man she was going to marry.” They married a year later, on November 22, 1969. They spent a wonderful week in New York for their honeymoon. Grace and James had just celebrated 50 years of marriage. James has been Grace’s caregiver for the last four years. He lovingly met all her needs and cared for her as only a man who loves his “woman” could. Their children know that because of his genuine love and tender care that their mom would not have survived as long as she did. We would also like to thank our sister Amanda for all she has done to care for our parents. Opening her home and giving so much of her time and energy, even though she was dealing with many health trials with her son and granddaughter. You have truly shown us the amazing gifts that made mom so loving and caring in the way you have cared for mom and dad.
Grace was not only an amazing mother but an amazing friend to her children. Many hours sitting having coffee and chats and trying on moms’ clothes and often watching her “crash” her computers. She studied accounting at Okanagan College but her biggest accomplishment is her family and marriage. Her name said it all, Grace.
PS I have been truly humbled and blessed to have you by my side in life.
Always and forever, all my love, Hogey
