Mom was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Zofia Gedzicki, her step-mother Sophie Gedzicki, her brother Alex Gedzicki, her husband Walter, daughter-inlaws Sina Goy and Marsha Goy, and great-granddaughter Millicent Wyder.
Born on March 12, 1934 in Kuroki, Saskatchewan, Mom spent her childhood working on the farm in Wadena, Saskatchewan. She eventually moved to Winnipeg and then to Westbank, BC owning an orchard, raising chickens along with Missy their cow. She eventually moved to Kelowna purchasing her first home and raising her five children by herself.
Mom had a hard life but she never, ever let that stop her from giving her children everything they needed. She worked at the local Saan store, but was proudest with her job working in the deli at Peoples Food Market where she met her lifelong friend Ethel Goerzen.
Mom had a deeply strong faith and was very involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Church volunteering wherever she was needed and even holding an executive position as well as singing in the choir. Her Ukrainian heritage meant a lot to her which she passed the many traditions onto her children.
Mom was named Women of the Year Civic Award in 2000, received the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was a Kelowna Hostess for over 20 years and loved going on the bus trips that her dear friend of over 30 years, Lil Moller arranged. She has volunteered at the Okanagan Child Find Program in Kelowna, was an original member of the Kasugai Sister City Association, BC Special Olympics, Stride with Pride, KGB Orthopedic Committee, Communities in Bloom, Co-Chair for Auction Air which was a fundraiser for various charities throughout Kelowna, International home stay host for the Okanagan University College, President of the Ukrainian Catholic Church Parish Council, Past President of the CWL for the Ukrainian Catholic Church after serving as President, Pastoral Church Eparchy Council of BC and held an executive position with the Strata Corporation at her condo. Mom was a fantastic seamstress sewing the ice skating costumes for her children. She loved canning and her garden and made the best pierogies.
Mom was a very independent woman and even when the years had her using a walker, she would never ask for help or accept help from passerbys.
Mom will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and deep love for those closest to her. Her presence was a source of comfort, guidance and stubbornness and her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at the Kelowna General Hospital especially Dr. Butler as well as Mom’s clinical doctors and the Care Staff as Hospice House Kelowna and especially Art and Deb Gibson who always checked on Mom. Our family will never forget their kindness and love.
