Mickey is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Lillian, three brothers Dennis, Donald and Gerald and two sisters Patricia (Palmer) and Roberta (Hlokoff). Mickey is survived by his loving wife Ellen Hassell (nee Albers/Davis), one brother Stuart (Valerie), sister in law Joy, sons Kelly (Karen), Doug Albers (Faith) and Rodney Albers (Gina), and daughters Cindy Sabino and Audrey Cann (Doug). Twelve amazing grandchildren Chrisandra, Emmit, Alixis, Melissa, Megan, Jenna, Morgan, Christopher, Brandon, Justin, Lindsay and Amanda, and six great grandchildren Creston, Cameron, Cody, Ainsley, Ryleigh and Bryar. And many nieces and nephews.
Mickey was born at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. on June 30, 1935. Mickey lived a full life of adventures, and lived by the motto “family first”. Mickey’s first move was from Lulu Island, B.C. to where he grew up in Surrey B.C. Mickey later moved and started his family in Terrace B.C, then life took him to Mackenzie B.C. where his career as a purchaser for a local sawmill flourished. After retirement, Mickey and Ellen moved to Kelowna B.C where he spent his final years. Mickey’s many passions included flying aircraft, mechanics, driving his backhoe, building his cabin, snowmobiling, and dirt biking. Mickey was always full of stories about his adventures with his brothers to Tijuana, Mexico and crazy “get-in-trouble” escapades with his good buddy and lifelong friend (from the age of 7) Ron Minet. Mickey also enjoyed country music, poetry, reading, painting, socializing with friends and family. Mickey was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; whatever they were up to he wanted to know about it and be a part of it.
Mickey’s family would like to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all of the wonderful staff at Cottonwoods Care Center and all of the doctors and nurses that were so amazing to Mickey in his final months of life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Mickey’s life will be held at later date.
