It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Aitken on April 23, 2026. Jim was surrounded by the love of his family in his final days. Jim was the rock of our family, a steady, devoted man whose love, guidance, and quiet strength shaped our lives in ways words can never fully capture. His advice and opinions mattered deeply to all of us, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.
Jim was born on December 5, 1933, in Berwyn, Alberta. A hardworking and devoted man, he always put his family first. At the age of 19, he met the love of his life, Joan Wilson. They were married on December 3, 1953, and shared 71 wonderful years together before Joan’s passing on December 16, 2024.
Jim relocated from Fort St. John to Kelowna with Joan and their three young children, in search of new opportunities. Here, he built a life rooted in dedication and hard work, founding a construction business (Suncrest Homes) that spanned decades throughout the Okanagan Valley. Through his craft as a carpenter, he built homes for countless families.
Jim was always ready to lend a hand, especially when it came to helping his family with projects big or small. More than anything, he treasured time spent together with his loved ones. Family dinners and Sunday morning coffees were filled with laughter, stories, and his ever-present smile. He made each person feel seen and valued, always taking the time to listen and connect in his own quiet, meaningful way.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sherry Aitken (Bob) and Bonnie Skok (Ron); his grandchildren, Tara (Mike), Jamie (Steve), Heather (Tom), Cameron (Nicole), Carleen, Chris, and Kim; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Blake, Cody, Conner, Knox, Cruz, Grayson, and Laine. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Aitken; his son, Blaine (Marilyn); his sister Margie (Archie); and his parents, James and Frances “Frankie” Aitken.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Spring Valley Seniors Community for their compassionate care and unwavering support. Their kindness brought comfort to Jim and his family during his time there.
His life was defined by the love he gave so freely and the family he devoted himself to. His lessons, his voice, and his quiet strength will stay with us always, guiding us in all we do. He will be missed more deeply than words can ever express. In honoring Jim’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.
