It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joanne Margaret Carmichael, beloved wife, mother, Gramma/Gabby, aunt, and friend, on March 20, 2025, at the age of 79. Joanne was born on July 7, 1945, in Trail, British Columbia, and spent her life touching the hearts of those around her with warmth, kindness, and a love for learning.
Joanne dedicated much of her life to teaching and a love of reading, inspiring generations of students with her passion. She was a devoted educator who found great joy in helping others grow and thrive. Her compassion and dedication to her students extended beyond the classroom and into the lives of those who knew her.
Joanne also shared a deep passion for travel with her husband, David, and explored many foreign destinations throughout their life together. Whether wandering through the streets of ancient cities, relaxing on tropical beaches, or visiting exotic locations, her love for discovering and experiencing new cultures were a core part of who she was.
Joanne was a loving wife to her husband, David, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was a proud mother to her two sons, Brian (Kim) and Ken (Delta), and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Olivia, Kaden, Sydney, and Elliot. She was also a treasured aunt and a steadfast friend to many. She is also survived by her brother James (Jim) King (Kathy) of Trail, BC.
Her family and friends will forever remember her gentle spirit, her unwavering support, and her ability to bring love and joy to every room she entered. Joanne's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation in Joanne’s memory, a cause that was close to her heart.
Joanne’s presence in this world was a gift to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to her loved ones for years to come.
Rest in peace, Joanne. You will forever be loved.
