John Tillman Boyer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Tillman Boyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle who passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 85.

John was born on May 24, 1941, in Kelowna, where he lived his entire life. A hard-working and dependable man, John was devoted to his family and took great pride in his home and property. He was happiest when there was work to be done or a project to keep him busy.

John had a lifelong love for horses and horseback riding, and was especially proud of his Morgans, Lisa and Lou, on the farm he and Margaret built together on Hartman Road in Rutland. He was also a devoted sports fan. He had a love-hate relationship with the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays and rarely missed a game.

Hockey was especially meaningful to John, coaching his sons as well as several teams. Those years created memories that would remain an important part of family life. John also played men’s fastball for several years, enjoying the camaraderie, competition, and friendships that came with the game.

John had a love of fast cars. One of his particular prides was his Plymouth Road Runner, which he bought brand new in 1969. John, Margaret and the boys would often take long drives together, with no particular destination in mind, simply enjoying the time on the road as a family. Those drives became part of the many simple and lasting memories they shared together.

John loved to share his memories from years gone by. Whether the memory was about his younger years, family, life on the farm, cars or one of the many experiences gathered over 85 years in Kelowna, storytelling was simply part of who John was. His family will miss hearing those familiar memories.

Above all, John was a family man. He is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 63 years; his sons, Danny (Jackie) and Bobby (Stefania); his grandchildren, Courtney (Cameron), Megan (Brody), Justine (Justin), and Bryce (Nicole); and his great-granddaughter, Piper.

John will also be greatly missed by his sisters Darlene and Dona (Wally); his brother-in-law, Douglas Smuland (Elaine); his sisters-in-law, Janice Lamarre (Alonzo), and Joyce French; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys, and his brother, Larry.

John lived a full life in the community he always called home. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his devotion to his family, his love of horses, sports, photography, and the simple joys he found in spending time with the people he loved.

After 85 years in Kelowna, John leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will miss his steady and familiar presence.

Family and friends will each honour John in their own ways. No formal service will be held.
