Karen Gibson, 70, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 29, 2025, after a three-year battle with cancer. Predeceased in 2021 by Bill, her husband of almost 40 years, Karen was lovingly cared for by her son David and daughter-in-law Tashauna in her final months. Her daughter Amy (Jeff Sexton) joined them for the last few days. She passed peacefully, surrounded by love.
Born to Armand and Berniece Donais in Edmonton, Alberta, Karen was predeceased by both parents, brother Jan, sister Kim, in-laws Don and Maureen Somers, and niece Meredith. She was well-loved by her extended family, including brother Jay (Kim), sister Kelly Anne, nephew Jon, niece Marnee, grandnephews Walter and George Somers, grandsons Marcus and Noah, and many close friends that are considered family.
A resident of Kelowna since 1992, Karen collected many hobbies throughout her life. From curling and quilting to Mahjong and bonsai, Karen built communities around her many passions. One of her greatest passions though was cheering on her kids. Whether it was early morning hockey games or weekend-long golf tournaments for David, or keeping stats and making signs for Amy’s curling or softball teams, Karen was always their biggest fan. Her loss leaves a big hole in the hearts of anyone who knew her.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the care team of the Hospice House of the Central Okanagan for their kindness, care, and support of Karen’s illness in her final days.
Following Karen’s wishes, there will be no service.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of Central Okanagan: https://hospicehousekelowna.com/ or a charity of your choice.
