It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Katherine Leavitt, who passed away peacefully on the morning of July 14, 2026, at the age of 90.
Katherine was born on September 6, 1935, the ninth of eleven children. On June 2, 1958, she married the love of her life, James Elroy Leavitt. Together they built a loving home and raised six children, creating a family that remained the center of Katherine's life.
Katherine was deeply loved by her family and by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her home and her heart were always open, regardless of who someone was or where they came from. She treated everyone like family, never judged others, and offered kindness, comfort, and a safe place to anyone in need.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Martin, Jim, Teresa, John (Annette), Sandra (Ed), and Floyd; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Dustin), Clayton, Steven, Matthew, Patience, Susan (Kyle), Nicholas (Liz), Andrew, and Krystine (Matt); her great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Jax, Chloe, Samuel, Cameron, Markais, Alex, Noah, Travis, JD, Matthias, Blake, Malcolm, Eleanor, Robin, Donovan, and Marshall; her great-great-granddaughter, Olivia; and her beloved sister Nettie who remained her lifelong best friend and constant companion.
Katherine was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved, especially watching the children laugh, play, and make memories together. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, particularly when they could be shared with family and friends. Whether she was creating something delicious in the kitchen, tending to her garden, working on puzzles, singing, or enjoying a picnic at the park, Katherine cherished every opportunity to bring her family together and create lasting memories with those she loved.
Katherine lived a full and beautiful life and was determined to be present for life’s most meaningful moments. She was especially proud to watch her family grow and treasured every milestone along the way. Her final wish was fulfilled this past May when she was able to welcome her newest great-grandchild into the family and share in the joy of this precious moment.
Katherine's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kelowna on Monday, July 27, at 10:00 a.m. A picnic lunch will follow at the Lucas residence, located at 4295 Todd Place, Armstrong. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Katherine's beautiful life.
