Ron and Family
We only just now heard about Kathy and are just so sorry that you have lost this wonderful lady. We so enjoyed having you as neighbours and seeing the vibrant and enthusiastic woman that she was. Although she was ten years older than I was, she could easily outpace me when it came to physical ability and endurance.  It is so hard to believe she is gone.  I know you must miss her.

In my last days with Mom she shared what she called a cute story with myself, Kelly and Meg.  She was talking about how she asked dad if he would sing her a song and that it was about the moon and a gambler.  Dad had told mom the song was Moonlight Gambler by Frankie Laine and then Dad started crooning to mom:
You can gamble for match sticks, you can gamble for gold
The stakes may be heavy or small
But if you haven't gambled for love and lost, you haven't gambled at all

Win or lose, I'm a moonlight gambler
And a winner is what I long to be
So I'll gamble for love just as long as I live
Till the day Lady Luck smiles at me
Then mom says to Dad “dear we won”.  Mom and Dad really did win and the love and respect that they had for each other is something that I will always set as the benchmark for what a relationship should be.

Rest in peace beautiful girl – we will all miss that infectious laugh!

Kathy was known to many as a sister, a wife, an aunt, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a dear friend and to me and my siblings - our mother. She always had your best interest at heart, whether you knew it or not. She was not one for idle chitchat, if she wanted to know what was going on in your life, she'd just ask you... No matter the subject matter. Mom was generous to a fault, helping each of her kids out numerous times in our lives. She taught each of us the value of a dollar and that actions had consequences.

A true protector; as a teenager, when the boys at school would be picking on her older sister, she'd step in and have them running in fear of a good whipping.

Her values and devotion to family and friends is testament to how she cherished each and everyone in her life.

Mom, I know you are now with Keith, just know you are truly loved and will be deeply missed.

To Those Whom I Love and Those Who Love Me
“When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.”


When I think about mom I think of several versions of her:
“Chatty Kathy” is the mom that always made a point of connecting with people on a personal level.  She really wanted to get to know you and find out what made you tick.  Chatty Kathy was always up for a good talking and often I would get questions from my friends asking how my mom was as she had connected with them when they were over visiting.

“Mumsy” is who I think about when I’m playing crib.  I am always telling Tracy that Mumsy says keep your points when trying to decide what cards to throw in your crib.  Often times once the card has been cut I will hear Tracy mutter “Uggh I should have listened to Kathy”

“All-Out-Kathy” is the Kathy that we all remember in how she approached life on daily basis.  Whether it was running a restaurant, going for a walk and even her battle with cancer.  Mom did not have a half throttle – it was always cranked to 11.  She would research things and then implement them.  Dad was the recipient of the healthiest dinners, granola and cookies.

Just plain “Mom” is the person that I remember who always put everyone’s needs ahead of hers – well except for anything Swiss made.  She did have a soft spot for the quality of Swiss items.  Mom was always there for us whenever we had a problem and she was  constantly asking how we were all doing and worrying about us all through her life.



Our deepest sympathies in hearing of Kathy's passing. Our family has many fond memories of camping with Kathy, Ron and his lovely family. She will be missed.
