Kay Mayer, of Kelowna, BC, died peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019, in Kelowna, BC, following complications arising from an accidental fractured hip earlier in December.
Kay was born in Calgary, the youngest of three children born to Mary Anne and William Reynolds.
As a child and teen, she lived in Calgary and Lethbridge. She met her loving husband of 70 years, Captain George H, Mayer, in Lethbridge. They married in 1945. Over the course of their lives, George and Kay had many adventures together, living in Alberta, BC, Quebec, France and the United States. George predeceased her in April of 2015.
Kay was a proud member of Mensa. She was very well-read and enjoyed learning and writing throughout her life. Discussions pertaining to philosophy, religion, psychology and the state of the world brought her great satisfaction. She also enjoyed both tame and wild animals & birds, shopping and the very occasional small flutter at Chances.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Janice Wojick (Steve) of Calgary, Valerie LaMaster of Tucson, AZ. and Linnea Whitaker of Calgary, as well as her grandchildren, Ryan LaMaster of Tucson, AZ, Cody Whitaker (Emma) of London, UK, Austin Whitaker and Caitlin Whitaker of Calgary, AB.
The family would like to thank the staff at the David Lloyd Jones Home in Kelowna for their kind, compassionate and understanding care of Kay over the past two years.
At Kay’s request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, The S.P.C.A. or the charity of your choice.
