Lena Wood

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Lena Wood. Lena was born in Heywood, Lancashire, England, on April 1, 1923 and passed away April 30, 2021 just one month after her 98th birthday.

Along with her husband Wilfred and their three children, the family immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Kelowna. Lena worked hard all her life and was a wonderful caregiver to those in need. She was a member of the aquatic auxiliary in its day, and helped with the night performances during the Kelowna Regatta. She was a yoga teacher in her home, school gymnasiums, church halls and at the Woman’s Place. She taught many children and adults to swim in her backyard pool as well as volunteering at the Parkinson swimming pool. Her family meant everything to her and she was always there for them.

Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred (2004), her grandson Jeff Hansen (1991) and her son-in-law Dennis Hansen (2006). She is survived by her three children Tony (Marilyn), Elaine (Bob Hill) and Jim (Lorena), 6 grandchildren, 4 step- grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Canada and in England. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mission Creek Landing where mom spent the last 4 years. It has been a very challenging time for nursing homes and they did a wonderful job keeping everyone safe.

A private family graveside service will be held. Interment in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
