Joy passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 18, 2020 at the age of 99years. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwyn, in 1995. Joy leaves behind her children Marilyn (Lon Brinton), Linda (Ron Thomson), son Glenn (Loretta), grandchildren Carmelle, Craig, Kelty, Scott, Sarah, Michael, Alycia and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her one remaining sibling, her sister, Phyllis Duggan.
Joy was born in Ellison district, the third child of Gus and Minnie Macdonnell and the granddaughter of Ellison pioneer, George Whelan. In 1941 she married Elwyn Cross, becoming long time orchardists in the Belgo area. She lived on the orchard property until the age of 95.
Joy was a very strong and independent lady who devoted her life to her family, friends and church. She travelled the world with her husband and enjoyed many years spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. She loved to entertain! You could always count on a great meal, served with one of her famous pies and, of course, her Nanaimo Bars for the grandchildren! Her flower garden was always a picture to behold!
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Wiebe, Dr. Cassidy and the angels of Peach ward at Brandt’s Creek Mews for their wonderful care and support.
