Maksimilijan (Max) Sovdat

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Max Sovdat on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Max leaves behind a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and quiet strength. His life was one of courage, beginning in a small village in Slovenia and spanning continents as he built a future for himself and his family in Canada.

Max is lovingly remembered by his partner of 31 years, Ursula Kirschner; his daughter, Manuella Farnsworth; Ursula’s children and grandchildren; and all who knew and loved him.

Max was born in a small village in Slovenia, where he began his working life as a young apprentice carpenter. Inspired by stories from his brother in Canada, he made the courageous decision to immigrate in search of new opportunities. Before settling in Canada, Max married his first wife in Germany, and together they continued their journey to British Columbia. He began his Canadian life in Prince George, working at Sinclair Mills, before the family later moved to Vancouver, where they welcomed their daughter, Manuella.

Over the years, Max’s adventurous spirit took him to Maui, where he built condominiums, and later to California, where he lived with his beloved partner, Ursula Kirschner, and enjoyed a successful career as a massage therapist. Eventually, Max returned to British Columbia and retired in Kelowna.

In Kelowna, Max spent his remaining years with Ursula. Together they shared a deep and loving bond, creating many wonderful memories and enjoying the company of cherished friends and family. Max treasured the life they built together and found great happiness in the years they shared.

Max will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, adventurous spirit, and the determination that carried him from a small Slovenian village to a life well lived. His memory will be treasured always.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna on Thursday, July 30th,2026 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. 2850 Dry Valley Road at 2:00 PM

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Max.
