It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of our beloved Father, Uncle, Brother and friend, Manning Edward (Denny) McCoy who passed away peacefully on July 27th. He was 77 years old.
Born March 22, 1948 in Saint John New Brunswick, to the late Doris Whitenect (nèe Spellman) and Manning McCoy. Denny lived his life full throttle. Affectionately remembered as “The Real McCoy” he was truly larger than life. To know him was to love him. He was the unwavering patriarch of our family, and the bridge that covered the distance between us all. He was a fiercely loyal friend for life to many from the east to the west coast of Canada. He truly loved and supported people unconditionally and was always willing to help someone in need.
Denny had three intense passions in life, family, friends, and motorcycles often combining them all. In his younger years, he travelled all over North America on two wheels having adventures and forging bonds with people that would change their lives for ever. His travels took him to British Columbia where he would spend most of his adult life residing, while always referring to New Brunswick fondly as home. While living in Vancouver Denny pursued his love of motorcycles building custom bikes and entering shows. It was there that he would meet the love of his life Edie. After years together, she became pregnant with their first child Wade and the two were married in 1989. In starting a family with Edie, he discovered his true calling in life, being a father.
Denny and Edie moved their family to Kelowna BC where it would grow to include Chance in 1994 and Cory in 1997. The house always had an open door to welcome in family and friends that needed a place to reside. He supported his family working as a Pipefitter/Pipeliner and was proud to have spent over 45 years as a member of United Association Local 170. His life was his family, keeping his kids in sports never missing a game. He often reflected on the days he spent watching his boys play baseball at Edith Gay Park in Rutland and referred to them as the happiest days of his life. He loved his wife dearly till death did they part and he never missed an opportunity tell anyone who would listen about his proudest accomplishment in life, his 4 sons.
He is survived by his 4 sons: Matthew Caldwell, Wade (Victoria) McCoy, Chance (Haleigh) McCoy, and Cory McCoy, his brother Wayne (Roseanne) McCoy, 2 sisters Lanie (Robert) Breau and Lori (Stephen) Miller and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Edie McCoy (nee Denesuik), sisters Gail (Will) Sewell and Bonnie (Jamie) Moyer, brother Robin Elliot, great nephew Devan Breau, Step-Father Edward (Buster) Whitenect and sister in law Roseanne McCoy.
With Denny’s passing, the world lost a true legend, a man among men, someone who lived lives, gave lives, and truly saved lives. He lit up every room he walked into with smile you couldn’t miss and unbelievable stories you absolutely knew were true. He was our hero and we will miss him dearly.
In honor of Denny, please take time to call your friends and loved ones and value the connections between you as he did so proudly.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 19th, at the Kelowna Canadian Italian Club at 770 Lawrence Ave. Doors will open at 12:30 with the service starting at 2:00 pm. I lieu of flowers we will be accepting donations to the Rutland Boys and Girls Club in Denny’s name.
