
Marilyn grew up in Kamloops with her parents, Mary and Harold Crawley. She was an only child and enjoyed being the centre of her parent’s world.
Her accomplishments during her time growing up in Kamloops were many. Piano, Basketball, Skiing, TV host, Diving to name a few. As a teenager, her favourite job was at the local A&W.
After graduating from High School, Marilyn started her Bachelor of Education in 1965 and graduated in 1969. Her first teaching position was St. Joseph’s School, Nelson, B.C. Through out her career, she focused on English as a Second Language in the Golden, Kimberley, Cranbrook school districts.
Marilyn met Roland at University and married in 1969. They had 3 children, Aaron, Allison and Todd.
They lived in Nelson at the start of their life together. They moved during the years as Roland’s position with the BC Ministry of Forests was relocated. Teaching positions were always there for her.
Marilyn was the cornerstone of the Oliynyk family. The raised eyebrow and the stern look were noted as a need to reevaluate whatever was in the moment. Her humour was boundless from an infectious laugh to pranks.
She loved her children and grandchildren and they were the center of her world. All the children went on to be well educated and great careers. The children married, Aaron to Debbie Oppliger, Todd to Romalynn du Guzman, and Allison to Tom O’Neill.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Crawley and her father, Harold Crawley.
