Michael was predeceased by his parents, Elwood and Barbara, his brother, Harold, and his son-in-law, Mark. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Lorraine, his children Nichole, Chad (Jenn), and Paula, his grandchildren Brandon, Logan, Teagan, Hunter, Isaiah, and Gabriel, and the mother of his children, Beverly.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Michael always carried a deep love for his home province. Though he lived in various places throughout his life, including Aldergrove, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Kelowna. Alberta remained a constant in his heart, especially visits to the farm in Busby were jumping on the tractor always brought out the kid in him. Before children, one of Michael’s passions was his 67 Camaro, which he modified and showed at multiple car shows. He loved working on the farm but since, as his dad advised, “There’s no money in farming, Mick,” he went to trade school at Nait College for his Autobody ticket. This decision would lead to many great adventures allowing him to travel throughout North America problem solving in a field he loved making lifelong friends along the way.
Family meant everything to Michael, and he returned to Kelowna to be close to his family. He was incredibly proud of his heritage and spent countless hours documenting the detailed history of the Huntley family. He took great joy in connecting with his loved ones, sharing stories, and keeping their memories alive. He cherished his time interviewing and recording his dad, Elwood.
A die-hard Oilers fan, Michael eagerly awaited the return of Lord Stanley to Edmonton. Mike loved to play hockey and golf, and he found great enjoyment in watching and coaching his children in soccer.
Michael was a true social butterfly, known for his warm personality and captivating stories. He loved being surrounded by people, making them laugh, and creating lasting memories with everyone he met. He enjoyed playing cards, particularly Crib and Brush, and he valued his outings with his friends to Tim Hortons.
Michael’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of family, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Michaels’ name to the Oilers Charity Every Kid Deserves a Shot.
