Muriel's memory will be lovingly cherished by her three sons and their wives: Keith and jil, Gary and Karen, Christopher and Mohini; granddaughter Jodie and her husband Scott, grandson Kale and his wife Natalia. She will be missed by her only brother Doug Shier and his wife Marguerite and her sister-in-law Elizabeth Simonson, all of the extended family and her many friends.
Muriel was born on May 11, 1934 in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to Mabel and Ev Shier. They moved to Prince Rupert BC where she grew up graduating from Booth Memorial High School in 1953. Muriel married Reginald William Martin in Prince Rupert on May 20,1954, and together they raised 3 wonderful sons. During their 66 years together they lived in Victoria, Burnaby and Delta. Reg passed peacefully on July 10, 2020.
Growing up Muriel was an outgoing and athletic girl making her senior high basketball team even though she was one of the smallest girls at the school. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors and for many years volunteered at the Vancouver aquarium. Muriel was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word, with a creative and adventurous nature she enjoyed cooking and baking, knitting and crochet. Talented at cards and an accomplished pool player she had a good sense of humour and a competitive spirit. And of course many of her friends will remember Muriel as an extremely accomplished quilter.
She and Reg travelled extensively by sail, RV, cruise ship and airplane seeing the world and its wonders. Muriel continued her adventures with her family and attended her grandson Kale and Natalia's wedding in Costa Rica in 2022. Muriel will be missed by all who knew her.
