Norma Fletcher passed away at the age of 93. She will be remembered by her children Douglas (Pojanakorn), Sandra, and Lynne (Andrew); her grandchildren Robert, Theresa (Josef), Jeffrey, Luke (Ess), David (Larissa), Atchariya (Cavan), Serena (Matthew) and Tyler (Cara); and 11 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Ron, her husband Art, and her brother, Forbes Cruickshank.
Norma will be remembered for her determination, kind and generous heart, and her sense of humour. She was born in Vancouver and spent most of her youth in Kelowna, until moving to Toronto to earn her diploma in Physical and Occupational Therapy. It was while working in Creston, BC that she met Art. They were married for 63 years.
Over the years Norma devoted her time to her family — raising 4 children and becoming involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She spent many years volunteering in the community. Among her passions were serving as a Cub Leader and Gilwell trainer for Scouts Canada, assisting Art in his volunteer work with the Canadian Cancer Society, providing physical therapy for children with disabilities, filling in as a pianist and organist at a number of churches, and accompanying school choirs.
The family would like thank Dr. Beilby, and the care staff at Glenmore Lodge, as well as the care staff at her former residence, Village at Mill Creek.
A Memorial Service will be held at the St Michael’s Cathedral, 608 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, on Saturday, September 5 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, an organization to which Norma and Art devoted many years of service and support.
