It is with the deepest sadness and a broken heart that I am announcing the loss of my husband and life partner of 50 years. Dementia slowly took his zest for life, his sense of humor, his laugh, his mischievous side, his unique individuality, his mind and finally his body.
Bruce was born in Australia and came to Canada in his early 20 with 3 mates looking for travel and adventure. He did take a very good job in Seattle one year but on returning to Canada, the border guard told him to choose this side or that side as you can’t immigrate to two countries at the same time. He never regretted for an instant choosing Canada.
Bruce worked in the oil patch in Alberta as a pipe fitter/welder. Dianna came into his life at a dance and the rest is history. After taking years’ leave, they travelled to Europe and
Australia before returning to Edmonton where they built their dream home on an acreage with horses and dogs. However, health issues both resulted in early retirement and a move to Kelowna and life in Sandstone community for over 30 years. They spent 13 winters in Palm Springs and as well enjoyed many wonderful trips and cruises.
Bruce was predeceased by his younger sister Anita and then his older sister Helen. He is survived by his loving wife Dianna, his nephews Iain (Jeanette) and Scott (Susan) and niece Bree as well as his great nephew Finn all in Australia.
We want to send our greatest thanks to the staff of both Cottonwoods and Orchard Manor. They are all phenomenal and caring people who have helped Bruce along this last, difficult journey. In addition, we thank Dr. VanderRoss and Dr Koss for the care and support along the way.
A very special acknowledgement and more thanks than words can say goes out to the fantastic friends from Sandstone whose help and support have made our time there so enjoyable.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Kelowna Hospital or Kelowna SPCA, two of Bruce’s favorite charities, would be greatly appreciated.
