Born on July 29, 1948 in Edmonton, AB, Ray was the oldest of 5 children. Ray grew up on an acreage in Sherwood Park, AB. He had fond memories of going to work with his dad as a milk delivery man. Ray eventually worked his own route with the company. He eventually went to Culinary School and found a love for exploring new dishes. Ray moved to Kelowna, BC and had a few jobs over the years and he however found his lifetime job at Grey Hawk Industries where he worked until he retired.
If you knew Ray, he loved to make people laugh, you could always count on him to make a joke, sometimes inappropriate, but he would always make you laugh. He enjoyed playing baseball, and was a HUGE Blue Jays fan. There was always sports on the TV, depending on the season, you could bet there would a Blue Jays game or an Oilers game on. Ray had an extensive hat collection which he proudly displayed on all walls in their home. You better believe that if anyone came to their home to visit, deliver a meal or just walking by, Ray was happy to show them off and mention that he had 1475 hats. He had a love for music and there is not a song out there he didn’t know as long as it wasn’t country. He enjoyed talking about music and bands. There was usually a Pink Floyd song playing, as that was his favorite. Duck tape was a go to.
Ray met his 3rd wife at the Army & Navy in Kelowna. They got married on December 31, 2008. Together they enjoyed dancing, playing darts, listening to music and just being together.
Ray leaves behind his wife Maureen, son Jory (Shannon); step-children Sharon (Scott), Robert; step-grandchildren Chrystian (Ashley), Ashten (Melissa), Samantha (Jordon), Justin, Jillian (Joshua); step greatgrandchildren Skyler, Reagan, Hayes, Nala, Kamryn and Adalynn. He also leaves behind his brothers Don (Brenda), Russ (Linda), sister Joan (Doug) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Allen and Elsie Harke and his brother Dave Harke. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com for the Harke family.
