It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Manns on December 3, 2023 at the age of 86 in Cottonwoods Care Center in Kelowna BC.
Gary was a kind hearted good natured man with a great sense of humour and smile for everyone. He will be missed by many.
Gary was born in Flin Flon Manitoba to parents Ray and Louise Manns on October 19, 1937. He attended school in Flin Flon and after graduation was employed by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. He worked in the “Hoops” Zinc Plant with his last position at HBM&S as a Stationary Engineer in the “Power House”.
On December 31, 1957 Gary was married to Annette Odegard. Annette was the love of his life and he was looking forward to celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary in a few short weeks.
Gary was an avid fisherman, camper and curler. There wasn’t a Pickerel or Laker in the area that was safe. His Uptown Curling Club rink consisting of Glen, Morley and Adolph were very competitive and in his mind would have given Team Gushue a run for their money.
In 1974 he moved his family to Kamloops BC where he took employment as a Stationary Engineer at the Gulf Oil Refinery. With the closing of the refinery in 1977, he moved the family to Kelowna BC, received his Realtors License and worked at AE Lepage Realty until his retirement.
Gary was a member of the Rutland Seventh Day Adventist Church. In past years he held the position of Elder and Deacon and donated a lot of his time to his church.
Gary is survived by his wife Annette, his sister Bernice (Bruce) Redman of Lethbridge Alberta, his sons Dennis (Donna) Kelowna, Dave (Jody) Kelowna, Ron (Mayda) Puerto Rico, Grandsons Jared and Ryan, Granddaughters Danielle and Lyndsay and 5 Great Grandchildren.
A special thank you to Dr. Marie Michaud and all the nurses and staff in the Renal Unit at Kelowna General Hospital for the care and compassion they provided Gary with over the years. We would also like to thank the nurses and care givers at Cottonwoods Care Center for the professionalism, care and compassion they have provided in the last few months.
