Renata Elisabeth Andreesen passed peacefully into heaven in the arms of Jesus, on the eve of October 31st, 2025. She is predeceased by her husband Herbert Dietrich Andreesen, who passed on May 30th, 2019. She leaves behind her four sons, Hans, Harald, Ralf, Rainer and her 20 grandchildren/great grandchildren.
Renata was born in 1932, and grew up in a small town by the ocean called Langeoog in Northern Germany. Renata has three siblings, her eldest sister Edeltraut (predeceased), Heidi (sister), and brother Klaus who still reside in Germany.
After WW2, Renata fell in love with her prince charming Herbert and joined him in Canada for more opportunities. It was a difficult decision for her to make, going into a new foreign country and not knowing the language, and saying goodbye to her family. She set sail across the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in Halifax. Not realizing how big Canada was, she boarded the train and spent many days making her way to Western Canada. She arrived in another small town of Prince Rupert, B.C. She always said, it was a culture shock from where she came. But she grew to love Canada and there she married Herbert in the Lutheran Church January 1954.
There they began to start a family and enjoy the new adventures. Renata worked in various jobs; cleaning at the hospital, working in the fish plant, and food services at a small Deli. She was such a good cook and an especially an amazing baker. Even the local Judge at the City Hall would order cakes from her. She liked socializing and made many close friends throughout her time there. She loved to watch her family in various sports like; water skiing, hockey and skateboarding.
After retirement, they sought sunnier skies and moved to Kelowna in 1988. Here she loved gardening, meeting new friends, and hosting family and friends as they came to visit the Okanagan.
Her last few years she had lots of time to knit scarves for all her children and 20 grand/great grandchildren. She even made scarves for her GP Dr. Obedkoff and his family, whom she adored. Thank you for the years of service.
Renata moved into Brookhaven Long Term Care in West Kelowna just about 2 years ago. She always had a smile on her face, and made the workers laugh and love her. She was known as “Oma,” by all those that cared for her. We are forever grateful for your service and care for our Mother, and she was too.
As difficult as it was to say good bye to Oma, we are comforted that she is at rest in heaven. Till we meet again Mom. Love your family.
Private gathering will take place in the spring for immediate family, as we lay her ashes with her husband Herbert.
