Shirley Mae Hughes was born on April 15, 1934 in Vancouver to Fred & Lottie, Shirley was the youngest with older sisters Lyatta & Cora. Shirley met Verne in New Westminister, After a whirl wind romance Shirley married Verne McCarty in 1957. Soon they were joined by their son Kenneth Verne, he made their family complete and Shirley settled in to enjoy the life as a homemaker. They moved to Alberta and settled in the Red Willow area for many years, moving into Stettler for a few years before eventually retiring to Kelowna where she resided for the last 37 years. Shirley is pre-deceased by her sister Cora and her husband of 44 years.
Shirley leaves behind a sister Lyatta Fox, son Kenneth Verne, numerous grand children, great-grandchildren & many friends.
Shirley will be missed by all that knew her - she was a very kind and compassionate woman always having time to listen, rarely did you see her with out her smile and a hug for you.
