1930-2021
Mr. Stanley Piontek of Vancouver, British Columbia passed away
peacefully in Kelowna B.C. on November 1, 2021 at the age of 91.
Stan was born in Lethbridge Alberta on June 11,1930. He was
predeceased by his parents Stephan and Helen Piontek, sister and
brother-in-law Sophie (Piontek) and Charlie Mahacek, and brother Curly
(Marion) Piontek. He is survived by his sister and best friend Jayne Stabb
(Piontek) of Lethbridge, and sister-in-law Doreen Piontek of Lethbridge.
Stan was proud to be Uncle Stan (The Man) to so many. Over the years
he had very special relationships with his nieces, nephews, and their
families and he will be deeply missed by them. After graduating from
Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1952
and served multiple tours ending on the H.M.C.S. Naden in Victoria,
British Columbia in 1959.
He then enjoyed a long time career with CP Rail as a clerk typist, retiring
after 30 years of service as senior billing clerk, Office of Chief Accountant
West in 1991.
Stan had a deep respect and love for nature and he was a gifted birder.
Some of his favourite places were in “Uncle Stanleys Park” just down the
street from where he lived in downtown Vancouver. He preferred walking
and was an avid cyclist, being an active member of cycling clubs in the
Vancouver area. Stan's name was placed in a Trans CanadaTrail Pavilion
in Medicine Hat, AB in 1998, recognizing him as a significant supporter of
the national trail dedicated to preserving and conserving the natural
grandeur of Canada for all people to enjoy now and beyond tomorrow.
He travelled often throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean,
Europe including his special place - Poland. He always took time to visit
family and friends along the way, usually teaching them something new
about where they lived, and always asking if they had the bus schedule. At
home he lived simply and frugally and his ability to find the best deals on
food and such was legendary.
Stan loved life and its history. His stories and recollection of life's events
were truly amazing.
An interment ceremony will take place at Mountain View cemetery in
Lethbridge on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM. The family will
meet for lunch afterwards at the Galt Museum in the Learning Studio.
If friends or family so desire, memorial donations can be made to the
