Victor Gerald Casavant passed away following a short illness January 30, 2018 at Central Okanagan Hospice House, aged 96. Victor is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey (Kelowna), daughter Charmaine, and granddaughter Brooke (both, Vancouver). Victor was one of 12 children, born in a small French community in Southern Saskatchewan August 1, 1921. Victor experienced 9 decades and saw many changes in those years. In the winter, he would ride the rails to B.C. to work in the Fraser Mills and work in the Saskatchewan wheat fields, spring-summer-fall. He saved his earnings for a cash downpayment to buy his first homestead, 15 miles north of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan in 1951. He met Audrey, at a dance and they were married in 1953. Victor was a very successful farmer, selling his farm in 1980 to retire to Kelowna, BC. However, he continued working for another 15 years with The Hudson Bay Company. He also volunteered for the Elks Lodge for more than 50 years. Victor continued to enjoy his retirement home in Kelowna until his last day. Thank you to staff at the Hospice House and Kelowna General Hospital for the care and support received. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Okanagan Hospice House. Arrangements in care of Valleyview Funeral Home, 250-765-3147.
