Mr. Andrew James “Jim” Macurak (Jumbo), age 85, of Acworth, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024. Jim was born on February 26, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his parents Andrew and Sophie, and his sister Marlene.
Jim served in the US Army 3rd Armored Division, then went on to graduate from Arizona State University, where he played football and baseball (fun fact: he struck out Reggie Jackson).
He married the love of his life, Marilyn Margaret Pegher, in 1969. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019, shortly before she passed away. They moved to Acworth in 1977, where he resided until his death. He is survived by his children Matt (Michelle), Brian (Mitzi), Jami, Mary, Scott (Laura), Michael (Allison); his siblings Tony, Patty, Tom, Carol, Bob, Don, Jan; his 16 grandchildren and 7 (soon to be 8) great grandchildren.
Jim loved to play golf, watch sports (especially Steelers football), and play cards with his family. He was happy with a cigar and a Manhattan in his hands, making everyone around him laugh with questionably inappropriate jokes (wushy, wushy, wushy).
He was an extraordinary salesman all his life. He never met a stranger and prided himself in remembering everyone’s name. In his career he sold anything and everything including beer, telecommunications, cranes, insurance, building supplies, and pest control. As good of a salesman as he was, he was also a sucker for a good sales pitch.
Jim was a good man, a devout catholic, and pretty much a legend! He will be missed by many.
Visitation for Jim will take place from 5-8 PM on Thursday, August 8th and 10-12 AM Friday, August 9th at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. The funeral mass to honor the life of Jim will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 9th at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Kennesaw.
