Catherine Ann Bianca Sconiers, 88, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away on July 5th after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.As the first of six children born to Angelo and Grace Bianca of Indianola, Mississippi, Catherine—known as “Cat” to her immediate family—resided in Indianola until attending the University of Southern Mississippi on a music scholarship. Her early life was spent surrounded by her large Italian-American family whencouraged her musical talent. At a time when the Alto Saxophone was considered “racy” by some, the very Catholic and Southern Catherine excelled in playing the instrument as well as the piano, winning many awards and achievements. After graduating from college, Catherine moved to Houston, Texas to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company (now Exxon-Mobil) which is where she met her husband of sixty-two years, the late William (Lloyd) Sconiers, Sr. Her husband’s job as Audit Manager and Division Controller moved their growing family frequently, eventually living in six states and three countries including Venezuela, England, and Holland until Lloyd’s retirement in 1986 when they settled in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Catherine was a dedicated mother to their four children and prided herself on keeping a beautiful home and serving home cooked meals every night. She loved to travel with her husband and her large circle of friends, and enjoyed collecting various art pieces, china and curios from every place they lived and visited. She was an avid Bridge and Pinochle player as well as a great Southern cook, although she would deny this saying instead that anybody could read a recipe. Those who’d ever tasted her fried chicken would disagree. Catherine was a devout Catholic who attended daily mass and volunteered in many capacities at her church until the limits of her illness made it too difficult to do the things she loved. She will be remembered for her Southern politeness and refined manners, but mostly she will be remembered for her devotion to her husband whose long marriage was an inspiration to their children.
She is survived by her four children: Bill Sconiers (Ginny) of Winterville, North Carolina, John Sconiers (Kim) of Kennesaw, Georgia, Karen White (Tim) of Milton, Georgia, and Steven Sconiers (Shawna) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee as well as eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Raymond Bianca of Florence, Mississippi and her sister, Mary Louise Peacock of Greenville, Mississippi.
The funeral service will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, on July 22nd, at 12pm. Visitation at the same location will begin at 10am. Her family will be present to welcome loved ones.
