Glenda Faye Fontenot

She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 52 years, Benny Fontenot; her daughters, Dody Sorrells (Jimmy) and Serra Mitchell (Jerry); her sons Scott Fontenot (Deidre), Duke Fontenot (Cathy), Marty Fontenot (Tara),Tony Fontenot (Vivian), Jude Fontenot (Rebekah); her grandchildren Taylor (Jacob), Clay, Hayden, Olivia, Nolan, Dylan, Tyler, Sophia, Avery, Charlotte, Daniel, Ellie, Abraham, and Isabelle; her great-granddaughter Brooks; her sister Cindy Wadlington (Chris), and her brothers Terry Smith (Glenda) and Bruce Smith (Janis); as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents S.B. (Sosthene B.) and Bessie Smith; and infant daughter, Toni.

Born and raised in Church Point, LA, Glenda was known for her Cajun cooking, contagious laughter and giving heart. She would give a stranger the coat off her back if they needed it. As the family moved from their hometown of Opelousas, LA, to Smyrna, GA, and on to Kennesaw, GA, Glenda could be found cheering her seven children on at their many activities, to include football games and band competitions. She was a wonderful and loving Meme to her 14 grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. Glenda enjoyed sewing and embroidery and she created numerous masterpieces, including hand stitched baby blankets for expecting mothers and pajamas for her grandchildren with their favorite characters on them.

Embracing her life in Atlanta, Glenda worked many years at the Home Depot offices, in the original building. She looked fondly on her years with Home Depot, and the colleagues who became family. In retirement, when she wasn’t reading to and playing with her grandchildren, Glenda enjoyed volunteering at the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

A Visitation & Prayer Service will be held at Winkenhofer Funeral Home, on Tuesday, Dec 28th, at 2950 Cobb Pkwy N, Kennesaw, GA 30152. The family will receive friends at 3pm on Tuesday, rosary recited at 4:30pm, followed by a Chapel service beginning at 5pm with Fr. Kevin Baldwin officiating.

Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Glenda's name to St Vincent de Paul society, 2722 Summers St, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
