

Mrs. Galya was born November 25, 1922 in Bridgeport, CT, a daughter of the late Stephen and Julia Andriso. She was the devoted wife of the late John Edward Galya for 64 years.
Helen was one of the many women known as “Rosie the Riveter” helping to build planes at Chance Vaught during WWII. After the war she met and married John and was a longtime resident of Stratford, taking pride in being a homemaker, raising her children and enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting afghans. After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Torrington. There she attended Sacred Heart Church, belonged to the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Catholic Council of Women, Alter Society, and The Leisure Time Club.
In 2005, she and her husband relocated to Acworth, GA.
Survivors include a son Stephen Galya of Acworth, GA, a daughter Mary Ellen Long, her husband Greg, two treasured granddaughters, Taylor and Codie Long of Acworth, GA, a sister Anne Horne of Torrington, CT, and many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by a sister, Julia E. Puskar, and two brothers, Stephen J. Andriso and Edward V. Andriso who was killed in WWII.
Services will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at 9 a.m. at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, Kennesaw, GA with burial following at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
