Jean Victoria Ifill was born March 10th, 1939 in Colon, Republic of Panama to Sinclair and Louis Mitchell. She attended Bolivia middle school and Abel Bravo High School. Jean accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a young adult, was baptized, and became an active member of Bethany Baptist Church in Rainbow city. At the church she assumed various positions including Sunday School Teacher, women’s group, usher, and more. Married February 23, 1961, she was a devoted wife to her beloved husband Vincent Ifill of 42 years before becoming a widow in 2003.
Jean migrated with her husband and children to the United States in 1980 where she resided in Brooklyn, New York and became a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. Jean was a devoted mother to her four boys; Roberto, Tony, Rolando and Fernando. She was dedicated to her family and a faithful child of God. Mom loved to travel, and was full of life, always generous to everyone. She would always help those in need no matter what their needs might have been. Jean was a very beautiful person both inside and out.
While Jean held the role of servant to God and mother, she also loved her career. She worked at various jobs such as the Archdiocese of New York, child foster care, and New York Foundling Hospital, working with special needs children. Jean worked many shifts over a number of years until retirement.
Jean enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking. Some of her specialties included her carrot cake, fruit cake, and the delicious Sunday dinners; rice and peas, stew chicken, plantains, and potato salad; that everyone loved. She also enjoyed listening to music, dancing and singing.
Jean Ifill is survived by her sisters; Adela Reid, Mercedes Hart, brother; Winston Mitchell, sons; Roberto, Tony and wife Angela, Rolando, Fernando; grandchildren; Anthony Jr., Lionel, Christopher, Rolando Jr., Anastasia, Nicholas, and Christian. Jean is also survived by Five great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Jean Ifill was preceded in death by her parents; Sinclair and Louis Mitchell, husband; Vincent Ifill, and brother; Arturo Mitchell.
After a long battle with various illnesses Jean went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2020.
She was a Faithfull Christian, loving Mother and she loved the Lord, and now she’s with her Lord and Savior in Paradise. We will miss her dearly, but will always treasure the memories she left behind.
