Joann (Rhoden) Childress

Joann Rhoden Childress, age 81, of Kennesaw, GA, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1939 in Bushnell, FL, to her late parents Cecil L. and Ollie V. McDougle Rhoden. Joann was a faithful member of Crestview Baptist Church, now GracePointe Marietta Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She sang in the church choir, was a youth group leader, and enjoyed being a part of the Kitchen Kuties. In addition to serving at the church, Ms. Childress was a caterer and helped with many weddings. She perfected making wedding cakes and baking for others. Ms. Childress was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Charles Childress, Jr.

Ms. Childress is survived by her loving children Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Childress III of Marietta, GA, David Childress and his wife Michele of Kennesaw, GA, and Cheryl Smith and her husband Stephen of Cedartown, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Shrader and her husband Bill Ratlieff of Pembroke Pines, FL, her eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Ms. Childress will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tim Childers officiating. Interment will follow the service at Pine Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to GracePointe Marietta Baptist Church Youth/Children’s fund in loving memory of Ms. Childress.
