Ken was born July 25, 1953 at Memphis Naval Air-Station, where his father was stationed in the Marine Corps. He attended several schools throughout the United States, and graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA, where he was active in football, basketball, and track. He was known for his running speed, friendliness, and red, curly hair. He proceeded to Georgia Tech and later received an architectural degree from Southern Polytechnic State University. Ken was a self-employed contractor, specializing in hotel renovations, demanding perfection in all phases of his work.

He attended and viewed every football game and cheerleading competition through the lens of his camera – as team photographer.
