Lindsay Carmel Roach

6 August, 19539 January, 2020

Lindsay Carmel Roach, 66, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 in his Marietta home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born August 6, 1953, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late William C. and Bettie Lindsay Roach.

During his childhood, he spent summers at the Lindsay Family’s Dairy Farm in Lynchburg, VA. The red-eye gravy and country ham breakfasts his grandmother, Hethie, cooked for him at the farm made quite the impact. In fact, one of his last meal requests was for a country ham biscuit.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from The University of Alabama in 1976. Roll Tide! He became a licensed CPA in 1977. He then earned his J.D. from The University of Georgia School of Law in 1980. Over the course of his career, he helped numerous clients pay the least amount of tax that was required by law. His proudest career accomplishment was helping his sister, Lisa, open her own veterinary practice in Cumming, Georgia.

An avid sports fan, you could always find him watching ‘the game’. His favorite team was The University of Alabama Football Team. Roll Tide! He became a huge fan of the Furman University Women’s Basketball Team and the Murray State Football Team when his children were on their respective teams. He made every effort to attend his children’s games. Most recently, he became a Troy University football and volleyball fan, supporting his niece and nephew.

Lindsay loved his family and was extremely proud of his children’s accomplishments. The births of his grandchildren inspired him to live his best life. He enjoyed nothing more than spending quality time with his family in front of a roaring fire. (Even better, if after an Alabama football victory!)

He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Roach of County Louth, Ireland and Marietta, GA; children, Katie Roach Hindrew and her husband, Jarrett, of Marietta, GA, Bryant Roach of Rockville, MD, William Roach and his wife, Jamie, of Roswell, GA; grandsons Jackson and Cooper; granddaughters Elowen and Remi; sister, Lisa Townes Hillier and her husband, Nick; nephew Case; nieces Townes, Halston, and Carleigh; devoted boxer, Shay; “The Outlaws”; and other beloved friends and relatives.

A memorial service to honor the life of Lindsay will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 3455 Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30066. Roll Tide!

I am a proud graduate of UGA Law 1980 and a member of the “Outlaws”! I have incredibly fond memories of Lindsay in law school and on the intramural football field - opposing players complaining and asking us to control him (he was on the defensive line) but all I could say was that we can’t control him, he’s a beast! And I vividly remember our day of celebrating after we heard that we had passed the Georgia Bar exam! Unfortunately after graduating, he headed to Atlanta and I headed to South Georgia so we didn’t see each other but we would stay in touch by telephone occasionally. I will forever live with the regret that I didn’t make a point of going to see him when I heard the news of his cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! Rest In Peace, my friend!

Oh, and I enjoyed watching Bama roll over Awburn last night in basketball! Roll Tide, Brother!
