Marjory Lesnett Payton

September 16, 1937 – December 16, 2021.

Born in Mercer County, PA, to Walter R. and Alice S. Lesnett, Marjory graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1958. She was employed at Bethel Park School District in Pennsylvania for 10 years and received her Master’s Degree in Education from West Virginia University in 1966.

She married Charles W. Mayer in 1962; deceased 2002. She relocated to Union County Kentucky in 1968 as an instructor of upper elementary and middle school math and computer skills. She retired from Union County Schools in 1995, and she received an Administration Certificate from the University of Evansville, IN, in 1982.

Marjory married Charles L. Payton in 2003. She is survived by four stepchildren: Kim Hunnicutt, Tina Payton, Randy Payton, Bradley Payton; two grandchildren, Spenser Peters (Rachel) and Justin Slate; and one great grandson, Wes Henry Peters.

Marjory is also survived by one sister, Marlene L. Anderson, of New Castle, PA, and her husband James (deceased); one niece, Vivian A. Maturo, of New Castle, PA, and her husband Michael; one nephew, James R (Jay) Anderson of New Castle, PA, and his wife Beth; grand nieces Jessica Griffith, Kierston Blenheim and Kaitlyn Sorrenson; grand nephews Tyler Anderson and Ryan Maturo (deceased); and great-great nephew Easton Sorrenson.

Marjory was a member of First United Methodist Church, Henderson KY, a member and past-president of Garden Club of Henderson, KY, and member of the Henderson Retired Teachers’ Association.

She loved her family and her many friends and found enjoyment from travel, reading, writing and gardening.
