

Mary Ruth Gibson, age 83, of Acworth, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Tranquil Gardens Assisted Living. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Taccoa, GA to her late parents, Lake Herman Meeks and Marjorie Frances Smith Meeks. Mary graduated Kennesaw State University and worked as a teacher for many years at many different school systems. Mary was an avid reader. She liked romance novels...but her favorite was the Bible.
She was a faithful member of Wildwood Baptist Church in Acworth. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary was known to be called “Mema” by her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Howard Gibson.
Mary is survived by her loving children; Margie Gibson of Acworth, GA. Linda and her husband Tom Olley of Acworth, GA, Cheryle and her husband Max Smith of Acworth, GA, James and his wife Paula Gibson of Fairfield, CT; brother, Joel and his wife Margaret Meeks of Acworth, GA; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A Funeral Service for Mary Gibson will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Rick Waters officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow the service on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM from Carnes Creek Baptist Church in Taccoa, GA. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time). If attending the visitation, the staff of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Ms. Gibson safe.
