Born in Beira, Mozambique, in 1939, Norman spent his early years there before moving to London, England, where he completed his formative education. He earned a degree in Engineering from London College and worked for Corningware in both the United States and Canada. Ultimately, he found his true calling in medicine. He studied at the University of Western Ontario, completed his residency in Toronto, and went on to become a dermatologist.
Dr. May practiced for decades in the Kitchener-Waterloo community of Ontario, Canada, before relocating to Texas, where he continued caring for patients in Nederland and Beaumont until his retirement in 2020. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to serving others with compassion and excellence.
In addition to medicine, Norman was passionate about fitness and athletics. He was an avid runner and rower, and before leaving Canada, he designed and built rowing shells under the name Saber Shells—an endeavor that reflected both his engineering skill and his love of sport.
Norman married the love of his life, Rosemary, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his son, Andrew. He is survived by his brother, John May of Hemel Hempstead, England; his daughter, Jacqueline (Jason) Traster of Powder Springs, Georgia; and his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Ryan. Above all, Norman was a devoted family man, deeply committed to providing for and loving his family.
Though Powder Springs was his final home, his life was lived across continents, and his influence touched countless lives around the world. He will be remembered for his faith, his dedication to medicine, his love of running and rowing, and his enduring devotion to family.
