From Norman’s relations in Australia:
It was with great sadness that we hear of Norman’s recent passing.
Norman's wife Rosemary Jean May (nee Salvador) had an older sister Christine Hyde (ne Salvador) who lived in Canberra, Australia.
Rosemary decided to try living in Canada and departed on a passenger liner from Sydney. Norman and Rosemary met at the Ontario stock exchange where they both would go at lunchtimes to observe what was happening in the financial markets.  Marriage and family followed.
We recall Norman’s brother John visited Australia and meeting up with Christine and Dal Hyde.
Christine Hyde's third son, Steven, stayed with them for a while when Jackie was about 10 years old. Steven was on his way to an exchange posting at Oxford University.
Christine’s first son Anthony Hyde remembers Rosemary’s enthusiasm for tennis.
The May and Hyde families communicated regularly by letter, phone and photographs for many years, so that both sisters knew of family developments. 
When Rosemary developed a brain aneurysm many years ago, sister Christine went to Canada to see her and took her on a tour of some Canadian cities and towns. Some years later, Rosemary visited Australia on her own, and stayed with sister Christine's family for a while and took the opportunity to visit other Australian relations. Many years after, Christine and husband Dal Hyde stayed with Norman and Jean for a week following a tour in the United States.  They greatly appreciated the warmth shown to them by Norman and Rosemary during their stay.
We remember Norman as an outstanding person in stature, athletic prowess, intellect, enterprise and commitment to what interested him.  
At one stage after Rosemary's passing, he expressed an interest in visiting Australia but this did not eventuate.

Memories of my brother Norman – of his life, our family’s journey, and the times we shared.
Norman and I were born in Beira, Mozambique, during the Second World War. Our father, William, was a Scotsman from Glasgow, a marine engineer who served with distinction in the First World War. Afterward, he settled in Mozambique, where he ran an engineering company with his brother. In 1935 he met our mother, Marjorie, on a ship bound for South Africa. They married and returned to Beira, where Norman was born in 1939, and I followed three years later.
We had an adventurous childhood. Norman loved building boats – one memorable attempt from an old wardrobe didn’t quite float. We swam, explored the beaches, and went on river trips where crocodiles lurked. Our mother ran the only English-speaking school in Beira, so learning and exploration were always close to us.
School took Norman from Mozambique and to South Africa, before our father’s death brought us back to England. At Cranleigh School, Norman thrived, excelling in maths, running, and built a canoe that gave us joy for many years. He went on to Imperial College London, where he earned a First in engineering, rowed in London University’s top crew, and won on the Thames at Henley and the Head of the River.
In time, he sought a new path, moving to Canada, first as an engineer, then bravely retraining in medicine. He built his life there, marrying Rosemary, and raising Andrew and Jackie. Though distance separated us, our bond endured through visits, letters, and family occasions. Norman came to my daughters’ weddings, to my wife’s funeral, and I was blessed to be godfather to his son.
Four years ago, I visited him and Jackie’s family in Atlanta – watching football,  and even playing my pocket trumpet for him - our last time together, a memory I will always treasure.
Norman’s life was one of courage, intellect, quiet determination, and love of family.  I have great memories of you Norman.

I didn't see Uncle Norman often, but I was very touched that he came over from the US to England for my wedding.  I have clear early memories of staying with the family (Norman, Rosemary, Jackie and Andrew) in Toronto when I was 7 and holidaying with them, being encouraged to water-ski on a Canadian lake.  He also urged me to run for a mile or so around the fields in our village back home when he visited - Norman was a long-distance runner and thought nothing of running up to London (a round trip of around 50 miles) before breakfast.  Dad was proud of his rowing achievements at university too and the boat he made, I later discovered he had made a bookcase that we still own.  
I have always been in awe of the fact that he trained as an engineer and then decided that Medicine was more for him and worked his way up the ladder taking medical exams in Canada and then the US.  He appeared humble and unaffected by these immense achievements but enjoyed his work so much so that he continued to work way past most people's retirement dates and advised all around him about their skin.  He was quite straight with me about my rosacea - not to drink coffee or wine.

So sorry for your loss. I loved sitting with Dr. May for a week during my daughter's absence. It was a pleasure watching family pictures with him occasionally seeing him smile.  It was sad to hear he passed. Praying for his daughter and family for comfort and peace during this time.

It was a pleasure being the sitter for 3 years for your dad.Every day was an adventure with us every day was different.
 Doctor may has so many stories to smiles to give out. He was such an appreciative guy for whatever you did for him , he appreciated it.I am truly truly going to miss him with everything in me.I am thankful that Jackie allowed me to be part of dad's life.

Dr. May was an active member of our monthly Beaumont Dermatology Journal Club, where local dermatologists would review and discuss the current dermatology literature and learn about new treatments.  I was always impressed with how well he stayed informed.  I have many fond memories of fellowship and learning “pearls” from all his wisdom and experience. He was a great clinician and derm surgeon. He has already been deeply missed since he retired and moved away, now he will always have a place in our hearts.

To the May and Traster families, my condolences to you. May the Lord comfort you and give you peace. Enjoy the memories you shared with him and may they last forever.

Dr. May was a dermatology colleague of mine in Beaumont, Texas for years.
