Ruth Caroline Bolek passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in Marietta, GA. She was 98 years old. Her husband Michael Joseph Bolek, to whom she had been married for 50 years, predeceased her in 2008. She is survived by her three children Mary Ann Lees (Richard) of Ellicott City, MD; Elaine Bolek of Woodstock, GA; David (Caroline) Bolek of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth Lees, Jenny Lees, Daniel Bolek, and Jack Bolek; her brother Bill Matthews of Woodstock, GA; and her devoted sister Anne DeLao of Holly Springs, NC.
A lifelong Marietta resident, Mrs. Bolek was the daughter of the late Eva Chandler Matthews and William Carey Matthews. She was a longtime member of the Marietta Garden Club and an active parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Over the years, she had worked for General Motors, St. Joseph School, Marlanta Blueprints, and East Marietta Florist, among others.
She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and she planted beautiful camellias, azaleas, and hydrangeas around her house. She was a longtime bridge and pinochle player along with her husband Mike; they regularly joined close friends for bridge parties and dinners. She liked to sew and enjoyed making clothing for her children and grandchildren when they were young. Always an avid reader, she made frequent visits to the Cobb County public libraries well into her old age.
