Stephen James “Steve” Casey, age 62, of Marietta died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, after an almost year long battle with cancer. Born in Hanford, CA, on August 20, 1948, Steve was an aerospace engineer and project manager for Lockheed-Martin for 29 years before his retirement. He earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University and his MBA from Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, CA. He lived most of his life in California and accepted a job transfer to Marietta in 1990. He enjoyed a lifelong, insatiable curiosity for knowledge, was a voracious reader and could engage anyone on any subject. He will be remembered for his delightful annual Christmas letter; he made the most mundane aspects of our lives interesting and funny, and family and friends always looked forward to receiving it. He also loved his annual road trips throughout the country, having visited all lower-48 states numerous times throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his father, James Casey, in May of 2010. He is survived by his wife Maureen Casey of Marietta, his mother Juanita Casey of Chula Vista, CA, his brother and sister-in-law David and Diane Casey of El Cajon, CA, nieces Jennifer Casey and Beth Sabala, and nephews Sean Casey and Michael Rafalko, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins to whom he was very close. If Steve were to be described in three words, the most fitting would be: Perceptive – he could grasp the big picture in an instant; Tenacious – he never gave up, no matter how difficult or seemingly impossible the problem; and Valiant, especially in the last months of his life as he battled cancer and endured often excruciating pain. Visitation will be Friday, March 4th, from 6 to 9 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, Kennesaw, with recitation of the Rosary at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Matejek on Saturday, March 5th, at 10:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Kennesaw. Interment will follow at a later date in Scranton, PA.
On-line condolences may be placed in Steve’s guest book at www.winkenhoferpineridgefuneralhome.com.
