Aime Katcheconias

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Aime Katcheconias, who passed away at his home in Northwest Angle, just as he said he would.

Aime was 58 years old and was born on June 1, 1968, in Northwest Angle 33, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He loved being home on the Angle and took great pride in sharing that special place with his wife and all his children.

Aime is lovingly survived by his father Aime Chartrand, wife Kristine Bjarneson, his children Chiata, D'Artagnan, Achilles, Tiernan, Kastiel and Anubis; and his stepchildren, Oliver, Jacob, Rosie, James and his little chomper Uri, siblings Sandy, Nancy, Kenny, Wesley, Albert, Aime, Josh and Joe, cousins, Charlene and Leanne who he considered his sisters. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and extended family members, friends, and countless people whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.

He was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Katcheconias; his aunties Clara and Agnes Katcheconias, his uncles Patrick, Percy and joe, his beloved grandparents Maude and Kenny (Albert) Katcheconias and his brothers Kelvin, Lee Baker.

Aime was one of a kind, a strong, fearless, and genuinely funny man whose presence filled every room. He was the most handsome man you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. He could drive a boat through a hurricane, shoot the eye off a needle, and was the only person you needed beside you on a hunting trip. There wasn’t much Aime couldn’t do, and there wasn’t anyone he wouldn’t help if they needed him. He was the head of the neighborhood watch and nothing got passed him.

In his younger years, Aime was a proud Sundancer and Karate champion, carrying those teachings with him throughout his life.

Music was one of Aimes greatest passions. Those who shared a home with him knew exactly what that meant, you could count on hearing his favorite songs on repeat, day after day. Those songs became part of the soundtrack of life with Aime, and today they will forever bring back memories of him.

Above all else, Aime loved children. His greatest pride was his own children, but his love extended to every child who came into his life. Aime enjoyed cooking and his Bannock would make you cry, his dishes were unique and delicious and he always said so. He had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome, cared for, and safe. Whether you needed support, honest advice, the truth or simply a good laugh. Aime was always someone you could count on.

His strength, wisdom, humour, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed and never forgotten. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will continue to echo and he will live on through the many lives he touched.

Pallbearers will be Achilles Katcheconias, Tiernan Katcheconias, James Sanderson, Sinjin Katcheconias, Cheryl Cowley, Nathan Katcheconias. Honorary pallbearers will be Chiata Green, Kastiel Katcheconias, Jim Bjarneson and D'Artagnan Baird.

A wake service will begin on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Super 8 Minis Hall. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 10:00am with Pastor Nathaniel Chae officiating, interment will follow at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.

The family welcomes all who knew and loved Aime to join in celebration a life that was lived with strength, generosity, laughter, and love.
