On the morning of Friday October 9th, Alastair Alfred Nilson of Kenora Ontario peacefully left this earth at the age of 78 years. Alastair was born in Kenora on February 24, 1948. Other than his years at the University of North Dakota, throughout his life he lived and worked in Kenora.
Alastair will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Maryanne; daughter Leah, son-in-law Andrew Rowe, and cherished grandson Soren.
Alastair was predeceased by his parents, Bertil and Helen Nilson, as well as his two sisters, Sheila and Gillian.
Alastair was forever a unique, curious and enthusiastic person. His life was marked by a series of intriguing opportunities and experiences. Alastair was a fixture of the downtown Kenora business community. He chose to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in the family business, Lindstrom and Nilson. In the early 1980s, Alastair converted the storefront of the L&N building on Second Street into Kenora’s first Home Hardware location. He made friends of many former co-workers, employees and business peers.
A private interment will be held later, and a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2027.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the longtime friends who kept Alastair connected: Elva Ross, Stuart Everett and Bob Helsloot; as well as the compassionate home care workers from Para Med: Louis, Colins, Merlice, Bill, Chris and Teaghan.
