Arthur Joseph Gagnon
October 16, 1931 -
January 24, 2017
Art passed away in his sleep at 85 years of age. Born in Kenora, he grew up in Norman.
He was predeceased by his parents Maxime Gagnon and mother Phyllis, his brother Joseph Gagnon, his daughter Debra Hall and his nephew Eric Roulston. He is survived by his son Dwayne Gagnon (deceased February 01, 2017), sister Bernadette Roulston, nieces Bonny, Elaine and their families, his grandson Kevin Gagnon of 100 Mile House B.C. and his great grandson Tyson.
Art was a member of Pequonga Masonic Lodge No. 414, being Worshipful Master in 1978 and District Deputy Grand Master in 1993. He also attended Winonah Chapter No. 18 OES: Golden Chapter No. 90; Ledger Preceptory No. 70; Zohar Council No. 90; Holy Bay Conclave no.19 and was a Fellow of the College of Freemasonry.
In the Sixties, Art worked as a bartender at the Thunderbird Hotel, Dryden, then at the Kenricia Hotel, Kenora where he got Eric his first job. Art ended his career with the 3M Company, as Steward on the Grace Anne II until retirement in 1996.
Growing up, Uncle Art was always a part of Bernadettes’ family, attending midnight mass at Christmas, then home to enjoy meat pie and open gifts. There were so many good memories of family get-togethers, be it holidays or a day at the beach, Art enjoyed it all.
Art was pleased when his son Dwayne returned to Kenora to be with him, and recently when Debra moved back.
Parkview Apartments was home until December 2015, when he moved to Pinecrest Home. He blossomed there, getting involved in the Residents Committee and always was first in line at the Cafeteria for meal time.
We would like to thank the staff at Pinecrest Home for their superb care of Art in his last year, especially Doctor Michelle Thomas, Nurse Practitioner Mike Limerick, Pastor Rob Wittmeier, Theresa and her staff and all the Nursing Staff on Unit 2. He loved when the ladies wore perfume for him.
Cremation has already taken place and there will be a Memorial Service officiated by Very Rev. Jim Dugan, at Pinecrest Home for the Aged Auditorium at 1:30 pm on Friday February 10, 2017, followed by tea and coffee.
