Arthur Ernest Romaniuk
June 13, 1926 – September 28, 2016
Art was born in Rainy River, Ontario on June 13, 1926 and moved to Kenora as an infant. He was the middle of three children born to Olga and Emil Romaniuk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Nadia (Philipchuk) and children; Phil and Leslie (Marin and Dustin; Quinn and Riley), Myron and Paulette (Christina and Andy Carlson (Knox and Saylor); Lucas and Chayla; Steven), Lorissa and Bruce Meisner (Kayla and Jon; Jennifer, Rylee and Jarrett), Greg and Tannis (Keaton, Elizabeth) (dog Cygnet).
He is also survived by his sister Orys, sister in law Sylvia (Doug), brother in law Jim (Shelagh).
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Evelyn Zurkan, and in-laws Mike and Nellie Philipchuk.
Art lived a full life and family was everything to Him. He was especially proud of his four children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He loved it when everyone was together either at the house or at the camp. This was truly special to Art.
Through the years, Art taught his children the values which he lived; the importance of family, compassion for others, kindness and encouraged all his children to follow through with what they believed in. His love of nature was also something Art cherished and instilled in his children. The family berry picking expeditions, fishing trips, family vacations or just the sounds of the loons on the water at camp all brought a twinkle to his eyes and were special to him.
Art was employed at the Kenora paper mill for 40 years where he retired at the age of 59 as a boss machine tender of the paper machines.
Art enjoyed his leisure years after work staying busy puttering at home and camp. He took up golfing and was proud of his “hole in one” at a Beauty Bay Seniors Tournament. He also was an active curler and had a keen interest in the activities of his children and grandchildren.
His sense of humour and presence will be missed by all those that he touched.
Many thanks to home care (Deanna), “Father” Daren, the Paramedics, family, friends and neighbours for the calls and visits.
