September 16,1935 - July 21, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Lillian Baker (nee Wolfe). She lived her entire life in Kenora, with the exception of her studies at the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her chosen profession as a Licensed Practical Nurse, that allowed her to care for people in her community, and alongside nurses who became lifelong friends, was a source of pride and fulfillment. For a span of more than 40 years, she worked at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
In 1959 she married Bob, and so began their 63 years together, focused on family.
Mom and dad shared beliefs in what made a home special: togetherness, many dear friends considered family, a pot of coffee and fresh desserts ready to welcome anyone who may drop in to say hello, gardens of colourful flowers, an appreciation of music and learning, and trust in God. For those who knew her, Bernice served as a role model on how to live a long and fulfilled life. From her early morning walks, evening bike rides with friends, daily interest in family and friends, a twinge of prankster, a sense of quiet resolve, and even at 90 glad she could be here to care for Rosie and the rest of us.
Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Audrey and Herbert Wolfe, in-laws May and John Baker, husband Robert, daughter Colleen, brothers (wife) Ernie (Elaine), Erwin (Rosalie); brother-in-laws (wife) Ray, Harold (Pat), Doug, Buddy (Florence), Al (Darlene). Also predeceased by many cousins.
Bernice is survived by her brother Gerald (Irene), son Robin (Pauline), daughter Heather (Mark), son-in-law Rick; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mathieu (Tryna, Collyns, Hayes, Hollis), Brock (Natalia), Danielle, Jose-Anne (Brennan, Nova, Vera May).
A private family graveside service will take place at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
